Henry Fogel, former longtime president of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Association, has just introduced a new blog, called "On The Record".

For anyone who has had the opportunity to hear or see Henry speak or write about music and the arts - something he does with verve, unique perspective, personality and sometimes impressive endurance - this blog will provide another point of access.

Henry has been CEO and president of the American Symphony Orchestra League since 2003, fulfilling one of the most important advocacy roles in the orchestral world. Founded in 1942, the League provides leadership and service to American orchestras while communicating to the public the value and importance of orchestras and the music they perform. The organization serves nearly 1,000 member symphony, chamber, youth, and collegiate orchestras of all sizes across the country.

Having visited over 90 orchestras since joining the League, Henry will write a virtual travelogue that covers the music he hears, interesting new ideas he encounters, and the people he meets in the orchestra world. Henry expects to write at least once weekly and occasionally invite guest bloggers.

Henry is also an avid collector of recordings, reportedly having to move several years back because his collection had outgrown its room at the old house. You can visit and explore Henry's collection online.

In addition to his travels on behalf of the League, Henry divides his time mainly between New York (where the League offices are located) and Chicago (where his home, wonderful wife Fran and record collection reside). Henry is still very much involved in Chicago, teaching at Roosevelt University and serving on many boards of institutions around Chicago and in Illinois.

Once a year, Henry still spends many hours behind a microphone for the CSO's annual Symphonython on WFMT, a radio fundraiser marathon designed from a concept he initiated 32 years ago. You can hear him next on April 1, 2007.
