YoYo's Out of the Box - A Luxurious Gift

So today is December 9. That leaves what? About 15 days left to find presents for everyone on my list. After spending significant time on Amazon, at Macys and other smaller neighborhood stores looking at clothes, movies, and nick-nacks, I'm having a hard time finding something. And then I heard about this.

Now this is a present.

A beautiful wooden box, lined with velvet, celebrating 30 years of Yo-Yo Ma's musical contributions with Sony Music. This box is a limited edition. Filled with 84 CDs, two bonus discs, a beautiful hard-bound book with archival photos, essays, full track lists, orginial liner notes, and credits - hard to resist for someone in love with the cello and a remarkable artist.

Renowned for the depth and range of his music, from Bach to Early Music to Cole Porter to Appalachia and no less as the ardent champion of multiform contemporary composers, Yo-Yo Ma is one of those rarest of artists whose profound musicality, high skills and personal charisma totally dissolve any barrier between he and the audience.

This set goes for $789. I recommend you check out the video just for fun. This is quite an extraordinary collection and I think a really creative way to get people excited about Yo-Yo Ma's career and the beautiful sounds he has made for 30 years.

Now I just have to save up $789 bucks!

Yo Yo Ma

Yo Yo Ma is performing at IU on March 23rd!

A revision..

The Yo-Yo Ma collection is currently listed at $632.99 and is available for sale at Borders, Amazon, and Barnes and Noble.

Too bad it is so pricey!

Sony released a limited edition box set of ALL of the Glenn Gould recordings, in a beautiful box set, beautiful book and all the discs were in replicated LP covers for each of the 88 CDs in the set.  Price - $200 bucks.  There have also been generous offerings from DG.  In this day in age, when compact disc sales are fading away, you would think they would rather sell a ton of these sets for less than very few of them at that price.  They must know something I don't.  But if this were in the 200 dollar range, I wouldn't think twice about getting it!
