The beginning of awards season for the top names in music, movies and TV began on Sunday with the Golden Globe Awards. One of the top films of 2012,
Lincoln, has an Illinois connection, and no, it's not just that the 16th president hails from the state. John Williams scored the film, and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra recorded the music for the soundtrack.  Williams, nicknamed “America’s Composer”, has been in the movie business for nearly fifty years. Here are a few fun facts about Williams you may not know.

1. John Williams’ Lincoln score was also nominated for a Golden Globe Award, a British Academy Film Award, a Washington D.C. Area Film Critics Association Award and a Satellite Award, and won a Critic’s Choice Award.

2. The Chicago Symphony Orchestra and members of the Chicago Symphony Chorus recorded Lincoln at Chicago’s Orchestra Hall under Williams’ baton in May 2012.

3.Over the span of his career, Williams has won 21 Grammy Awards, seven British Academy Awards, five Academy Awards, five Emmys and four Golden Globe Awards.

4. Williams has scored some of the top films in cinema history, including Jaws, the Star Wars trilogy, Superman, E.T., Jurassic Park, Schindler’s List and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.

5. Early in his career, Williams composed music for television shows including Lost in Space, Gilligan’s Island and Heidi.
