just wanted to share, the farewell concert series, at the CSO, we all know what a great conductor we have, but I was a little upset, so as my companian, She is a music director, discussing the program, having these modern pieces by Boulez, the Wagners Parsifaal, it did not fit together, also, to have an opera act at a Symphonie Hall, is a little Odd, I wish the Lyric Opera, would have invited MR. Barenboim to conduct Parsifal at the Lyric, hope to hear comments, from other Farewell Series goers.

I can't believe that a conductor of the caliber of Maestro Baremboim would find interest in a piece of garbage that is this noise created by P.Boulez (I can't call it music,I am sorry)Most disturbing dough,is that he would insists in performing a single act of an opera? at orchestra Hall? What is the point anyway?Very disrespectfull to Wagner,in my opinion. Is he just using the CSO to practice his opera repertoire? Because he is doing a lot of opera in Europe, that is why he is never here, even dough he gets payed 2 million a year...His disregard for programing makes me realize that he does not care about the CSO at all, just his Ego in the way. That is all is left from an incredible talent. He does not give his best anymore, because people are so ignorant that he still gets a stading ovation, even when he does not prepare accordingly...

As I wrote in last week's issue of Time Out Chicago, Barenboim has assembled a range of programs that feature his strengths, as well as feature what he considers to be his achievements as the CSO's music director. One of those achievements is in bringing to fruition Boulez's orchestral versions of his Notations, and another is in his long career as a Wagnerian. The program held together.
Boulez also has a long-held association with Wagner, if further connections need to be found.
Lyric Opera invited Barenboim to conduct Wozzeck, but didn't allow him the rehearsal time he needed, and so he backed out. Lack of proper rehearsal time is DB's reason for not conducting opera in the U.S. Given that opera is his raison d'etre in Berlin, it's good to be able to hear that for ourselves here.

Dear Mr. Geelhoed,
With all my respect sir, the CSO is not a "Rehearsall Orchestra" for Mr Baremboim to cut rehearsall time in Berlin, pluss, the Lyric does a better job in terms of puting operas together...
Further more, people do not care much about Boulez's relation to Wagner, because Boulez's noise can't be consider Art anyway.
And,in regards to programing,I never saw anywhere, the same piano concerto programed in the same season! (Bhrams' #1,Emanuel Ax, and then Baremboim) which talks volumes about the luck of care for programing.

Good riddance to Barenboim, the Israeli masquerading as an Argentinian. His Wagner is not anywhere near what Solti's was and Mr. Barenboim is not, as he believes, the new Furtwangler. He is, it seems to me, mostly a politician.
