Some exciting news for the Chicago Sinfonietta this week! We made a live recording of the January 14th performance of our annual "Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr." concert that featured the brilliant young pianist Jeremy Jordan, soprano Jonita Lattimore, and the world premier of Lerone Bennett, Jr's. moving narrative, "Martin, Coretta, and Rosa: A Musical Portrait". This lovely recording is now available on a number of music sites for downloading. Here's a link if you would like to preview some of the tracks, or maybe even buy a few!

In other news, I missed posting my blog for the first time last week since this site went live almost a year ago. The reason I missed last week was that I couldn't find a spare minute to write anything. We are finalizing our 2007-2008 season - watch for an announcement in the next few weeks - and we are working on our annual fundraiser, writing lots of grants, and trying to market our two remaining concerts including our March 18-19 performances featuring guitarist Christopher Parkening, baritone Jubilant Sykes, and organist Stephen Alltop. This will be a fantastic concert and careful readers of chicagoclassicalmusic.org can see it for half-price. That's right, the first ten chicagoclassicalmusic.org users who call our office at 312-236-3681 ext 2 will get a 50% discount on tickets. Just mention that you saw the offer on this site.

Finally, I got an e-newsletter today about a new website dedicated to illuminating the accomplishments of classical musicians of color - a subject near and dear to us at the Sinfonietta. It's called the Myrtle Hart Society named after an African-American harpist who was born in the late 19th century. The site is run by Rashida Black, who is herself, a harpist. Check it out.

The recording of the Jan. 14th performance is also available to members of eMusic and can be downloaded here. The recordings from previous years are there as well. Excellent and all "must" downloads.
