Post-concert PlayBack: Kirill Gerstein performs Gershwin solo tunes

The composer’s iconic Rhapsody in Blue with pianist Kirill Gerstein is the centerpiece of a program featuring Gershwin’s Greatest Hits, sung by veteran Broadway stars Harolyn Blackwell, Marin Mazzie, Jason Danieley and Norm Lewis. It’s one musical gem after another from shows like Strike Up The Band and Porgy and Bess, including Swanee, I Got Rhythm, How Long Has This Been Going On, Embraceable You, S’ Wonderful and the much loved Summertime.

Millennium Chamber Players - Prefacing their upcoming Canadian Tour, the young, critically-acclaimed Chicago ensemble presents a program including contemporary works by Kuster, Raz, Sharman and Berezowksy.

The Midwest premiere of a one-act oriental fairy tale from the composer
of Carmen. 

A little-known gem, this delightful opera follows the devoted,
beautiful Djamileh in her quest to win over the blasae young nobleman
Haroun. The sparkling mosaics of Preston Bradley Hall serve as the
backdrop to this tale of love in an Egyptian palace, and a pre-show
performance of music for oud and percussion explores the sounds of
the Turkish nobleman's court, setting the scene for an evocative evening.

The opera is directed by Patrizia Acerra and features Katherine Pracht,
mezzo-soprano; Cornelius Johnson tenor; Bill McMurray, baritone, with
members of the New Millennium Orchestra of Chicago under the direction
of Maestro Francesco Milioto.
