Johannes Brahms took Vienna by storm with his captivating G Minor Piano Quartet – as likely to bring audiences to their feet today as at its premiere. Considered the greatest prodigy after Mozart, Felix Mendelssohn wrote his piano sextet at 15, and Arnold Cooke’s charming quintet counts among the legacy inspired by the remarkable 20^th century English hornist Dennis Brain.

The Harris Theater, 205 E. Randolph Drive in Millennium Park, kicks off its fifth anniversary season with a weeklong engagement of San Francisco Ballet, the first full Company engagement in Chicago in over two decades. As the first stop on a four-city national tour, the nation’s oldest professional ballet company will celebrate its diamond 75^th Anniversary in Chicago with two distinct programs of three works each, featuring mixed repertory including six Chicago premieres, with four new works from the Ballet’s spring 2008 New Works Festival. The Chicago Sinfonietta will accompany all performances by San Francisco Ballet with San Francisco Ballet Music Director and Principal Conductor Martin West to conduct.

The Harris Theater, 205 E. Randolph Drive in Millennium Park, will commence Harris Theater 5.0, its Fifth Anniversary season, and host a gala benefit Thursday, September 18, 2008 in conjunction with a weeklong engagement of the San Francisco Ballet, celebrating its diamond 75^th Anniversary with a limited four-city national tour. The Chicago Sinfonietta will accompany all performances by San Francisco Ballet with San Francisco Ballet Music Director and Principal Conductor Martin West to conduct.

Tickets to the Harris Theater Fifth Anniversary Celebration are $1000 each and tables range in price from $5,000 to $50,000. To purchase Fifth Anniversary Celebration tickets or for additional information, call 312.553.2000. Reservations are limited.

Additionally, individual balcony seats to the special one-hour gala performance are available for $50 each. Tickets are valid for the performance only and cocktail or business attire is required. Johannes Brahms’ first string quintet adds the touch of strings, or “Spring,” as it was dubbed due to its sunny cheerfulness, to an evening of particular delight for chamber music lovers. CCM BRASS shines in Verne Reynolds’ gorgeous suite. Antonin Dvorak’s first major success – his Slavonic Dances for piano duet – is felicitously adapted for winds and double bass. The North American premiere of Avner Dorman’s Jerusalem Mix is a wind and piano collage of Christian, Jewish, and Muslim musical traditions co-commissioned by CCM and the Jerusalem Chamber Music Festival.

The Harris Theater, 205 E. Randolph Drive in Millennium Park, in joint collaboration with Chicago Sinfonietta, our nation’s most diverse orchestra, is pleased to present the Chicago debut of the internationally heralded Sphinx Chamber Orchestra. The Sphinx Chamber Orchestra, a 25-musician ensemble comprised of alumni winners of the prestigious Sphinx Competition for emerging pre-professional African-American and Latino musicians, will perform selections from Mozart, Wynton Marsalis and composer Michael Abels in this eclectic program. Under the baton of conductor Chelsea Tipton II, who also led the Orchestra in its acclaimed appearance at Carnegie Hall in fall 2007, the Sphinx Chamber Orchestra will also be joined by the Harlem Quartet, an ensemble comprised of all First Place Laureates of the Sphinx Competition.
