On February 17, 2010 the Italian Cultural Institute will host a discussion titled “Discovering Lyric Opera and its Music Director, Sir Andrew Davis,” with Maestro Philip Morehead, Director of Music Staff at Lyric Opera of Chicago, who will speak about Lyric Opera’s history and the artists who have sung on its stage. Maestro Emmanuele Andrizzi will talk about his experience at Lyric Opera with Sir Andrew Davis, who is the subject of Andrizzi’s doctoral thesis. Sir Andrew Davis has been Music Director and Principal Conductor of Lyric Opera of Chicago since 2000. He will conduct four of the eight productions of the 2009-2010 season. Maestro Davis was Musical Director of the Glyndebourne Opera and Principal Conductor of the BBC Symphony Orchestra and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. Maestro Davis has conducted the world’s most prestigious orchestras, from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra to the Berlin Philharmonic and the Royal Concertgebouw, along with opera theaters world-wide. In addition, Maestro Davis has made numerous recordings with Decca, Deutsche Grammophon, Warner Classics International, Capriccio, EMI and CBS, among others. Maestro Morehead, world renowned pianist and harpsichordist, has conducted numer- ous operas, and since 1981 has been at Lyric Opera as Head of Music Staff. Maestro Emanuele Andrizzi, after having taught in Portugal at Piaget University, moved to Chicago where he is Principal Conductor of the Cervantes Orchestra.
