Born in China, Xiayin Wang began playing piano at the age of five. She received encouragement from her musician father, Zhongyu Wang, known throughout China for his performances on the erhu, a two-stringed fiddle. At age nine, Xiayin entered the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, where she honed her technical skills and garnered an enviable collection of first-prize awards and special honors. In 1997, she moved to New York and in 2000, was awarded the "Certificate of Achievement" by the Associated Music Teacher League of New York, winning an opportunity to perform at Carnegie Hall's Weill Hall. She also pursued studies at the Manhattan School of Music and won the school's Eisenberg Concerto Competition in 2002, as well as the Roy M. Rubinstein Award. Xiayin Wang holds Bachelor's, Master's, and Professional Studies degrees from the Manhattan School of Music. She's also a Steinway Artist, which means that Steinway will deliver a piano anywhere in the world she performs.
