The Chicago Chamber Musicians' Composer Perspectives series gives today's leading composers the awesome opportunity to curate a concert of music that inspires them and today's adventerous audiences the chance to hear their minds at work.
Join CCM on May 23 as Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Steven Stucky presents his own works and works by Debussy, Ravel and Lutoslawski at this FREE concert taking place in Preston Bradley Hall.
With Steven Stucky, “there’s always the chance of hearing something that will survive the lifetime of its composer” (San Francisco Classical Voice). Stucky's curated concert covers a breadth of music that exemplifies his musical inspirations. “I feel that I was a student of Lutoslawski. He was my musical father, my mentor, my hero and friend. His style was a continuation of Ravel and Debussy, so that makes those French composers my musical grandfathers. In a sense, then, there are three generations represented musically on this program.”
This FREE concert features Witold Lutoslawski’s intense Partita, Ravel’s sonically innovative Piano Trio in A minor, Debussy’s Violin Sonata, his last work before his death in 1918, along with Stucky’s conversational Dialoghi for solo cello and his pop-influenced Piano Quartet.
CCM artists performing include Jasmine Lin and Joseph Genualdi, violins; Rami Solomonow, viola; Clancy Newman, cello; Meng-Chieh Liu, piano.
