This program’s music leaps from the off-kilter jazz of Derek Bermel’s Three Rivers to the lush ambience of Paola Prestini’s Spell. Also thrown into the mix are two pieces featuring saxophone—Edmund Campion’s sonic exploration Corail for sax and electronics and Jason Eckardt’s jazz-influenced Tangled Loops for soprano sax and piano. The concert ends with Steven Mackey’s challenging Micro-Concerto, a lively tour de force for fiveinstrument ensemble and solo percussionist, who plays everything from vibraphone to kitchen utensils.
