We met last night to discuss Golijov's opera Ainadamar. It was a great discussion and we set our next meeting and chose repertoire.
Tuesday May 1st at 7:00pm. We'll be discussing George Antheil's Symphony No. 5 "Joyous" and a couple choral works by Eric Whitacre: Sleep and Water Night.
The Antheil is available on eMusic. The Whitacre is available on itunes.
More later, but mark your calendars now.

This is great. I just wanted
Sun, 4/8/2007 - 5:02pm — Jim PalermoThis is great. I just wanted to let you know that the Grant Park Orchestra performs Antheil's Symphony No. 5, "Joyous" this summer on July 13/14 at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion with Hugh Wolff conducting. Also, the Grant Park Chorus performs Eric Whitacre's Cloudburst on June 26/27 under the direction of Christopher Bell at Holy Family Church, corner of Roosevelt and May Streets in Chicago. Holy Family Church is right next door to St. Ignatius Prep. Please log onto www.grantparkmusicfestival.com for more information.
Hi Jim, thanks for the info.
Mon, 4/9/2007 - 4:30pm — John RyanHi Jim, thanks for the info. The Antheil was my idea because I saw that you'd programmed his 5th symphony and I wanted and excuse to get to know it. From the little I know, he is an underrepresented composer! Discovereing composers is one of the great things about listening groups - last month we listened to a work by Ingram Marshall, who I had never heard of. And within days I started seeing his name - most notably a long article about him in Symphony magazine. Same thing is happening with Whitacre. I hadn't heard of him. Susan suggested him and here it is - a performance by a terrific chorus (practically) in my back yard. I'm looking forward to them both. John
