"If a composer could say what he had to say in words, he would not bother trying to say it in music. " ~ Gustav Mahler
The Grammy-nominated Chicago Chamber Musicians gives musical voice to the life-changing experiences of three great composers in the ensemble's subscription series season finale. Beethoven's magnificent trio was completed fresh from his first triumphs in Vienna, Schoenberg wrote his explosive work after suffering a near fatal heart attack, and upon Brahms' completion of his Agathe Sextet he wrote, "Here I have freed myself from my last love."
