Up Close! & Personal!

Hello. I am Rebecca Hill, Executive Director of the Rembrandt Chamber Players (RCP). Since we are the newest member of the Chicago Classical Music online community, I’ll use this post to introduce us.

RCP was formed in 1990 by orchestral musicians from Music of the Baroque, Lyric Opera Orchestra and Chicago Symphony Orchestra seeking a small ensemble outlet for their musical talents. Current members include: Sandra Morgan, flute, Robert Morgan, oboe, J. Lawrie Bloom, clarinet, Keith Conant, viola, Barbara Haffner, cello, Collins Trier, bass and David Schrader, keyboard. RCP’s Affiliate Artists include violinists Yuan-Qing Yu and Robert Hanford, and numerous professional musicians perform regularly as guest artists.

Our motto is “Up Close! & Personal!” Interaction between the audience and artists in an intimate setting is unique to chamber music, and is a key component to the RCP experience. Whether performing chamber music from the 17th century or 21st century, the musicians engage the audience and allow them to explore great repertoire in a comfortable environment. This interaction continues at our informal post-concert Meet and Mingle receptions where the musicians and audience members can discuss their experiences.

After months of preparation, our 18th season begins on Sunday, October 21st at the Music Institute of Chicago with If Music Be the Food of Love...Play On featuring works by Richard Danielpour, Jon Deak and Schumann. Guest artists include Dennis Michel, bassoon, James Smelser, horn and Daniel Paul Horn, piano. I hope you’ll join us.

In future posts, I’ll ask RCP musicians and friends to share ideas about this intimate art form and I hope you’ll share your observations, ideas and questions with us!
