I'm popping in to share and interesting article about season planning with you. How to Build A Season outlines what goes into season planning. There's more to it than you might think.
Here at the Rembrandt Chamber Players, we nailed down most of our 2008-2009 season at the end of January at a lunch meeting with the musicians. Planning for us is a collective process- and a lot of fun. Each musician brings several repertoire ideas to the table and the group decides which pieces best fit with each other and with the budget. Several of the musicians have special areas of knowledge. For example, our harpsichordist David Schrader brings extensive knowledge and input into planning our annual holiday Baroque concerts. Lawrie Bloom, clarinet and Collins Trier, bass both have a special interest in contemporary music. We're looking forward to a great 2008-2009 season featuring music from the 17th - 21st centuries. Stay tuned for details.
Until then, why don't you warm up a bit with some hot chocolate and a bit of Brahms? Check out the calendar or our web site for details about our Brahms Winter Delight concert tonight, 2/25.
And while we won't be serving hot chocolate at the concert, you can make some at home. Try this (from Orangette):
1 1⁄2 cups whole milk
2 1⁄2 Tbsp. water
2 1⁄2 Tbsp. granulated sugar
3 oz. bittersweet chocolate, finely chopped
In a medium saucepan, combine the milk, water, and sugar. Place over medium heat and whisk occasionally until the sugar is dissolved. Increase the heat to medium-high and bring the mixture just to a boil. Remove the pan from the heat and whisk in the chocolate. At this point, blend the mixture. If you have an immersion blender, you can do this directly in the saucepan; if not, you'll need to transfer it to a traditional blender. Either way, blend for 1 minute (on high speed, if using a traditional blender). The finished mixture should be very smooth and frothy. Yields 2 servings.
Stay warm!
